Good morning, my name is Tim Gordon and I have the blog back-alley taxes. I thought I should start doing a video series, and this is my very first video in the series. I decided to do something easy to start off, which is the 1040EZ. We're going to work through the 1040EZ to see how to create and file the return. You could use tax preparer software, but for a 1040EZ, it's simple, and you might have to pay for the software. So, why pay when you can do it for free? The idea behind the 1040EZ is that you have no information that the IRS is looking for, and it's for people in a specific situation. The first thing you need to determine is whether you qualify. If you're an individual, either single or married with no kids, and have income from uncomplicated sources like a job with a W-2, you can fill out the 1040EZ. Now let's move to the actual form. You can get the form from the IRS website, specifically the Free File Fillable Forms website. You can e-file the form there if you want. If you prefer paper filing, you can go to a website, fill it out, and mail it. On the top of the form, it says it's for singles and joint filers with no dependents. Fill in your information correctly, including your social security number, name, and address. There's also an option to donate three dollars to a presidential campaign. Moving on to the income section, attach your W-2, and copy the wages and salaries from your W-2 form. If you have taxable interest over fifteen hundred dollars, you can't use this form.
